Since 1996, allé has established a reputation for selling only the highest quality gems and accessories, which definitely come with a price. A large proportion of the jewelery offered here is especially suited as a gift for special occasions like engagements, weddings and anniversaries. The pricing range starts with items for about $50, but on the upper end of the scale only the sky seems really the limit, with the most exclusive and unique items exceeding 11000 Dollars (which is still $2000 below the retail price, by the way).

The store is quite unique for the way it displays every item within, every item is displayed alongside a rich and detailed description once you get past the catalogue view. The catalogue itself is easily accessible through the navbar on top of the screen, and the categories are pretty much self explanatory. If you already know for what kind of item you are looking, you’ll find what you’re searching for quickly and with ease. The additional categories in the left navbar allow you to easily find particular brands or discover current trends. We missed the option to sort the catalogue by pricing ranges, though.

The offered accessories are well represented through the high quality pictures alongside their unique descriptions including detailed specifications on sizes, colors, karat of the gems used etc.  The pricing range is one of the broadest to be found across the internet; from items that easily cater even the limited budget of a teenager to exceptionally rare gems of jewel crafting art for well over $11.000, the sheer variety of products available is truly exhaustive. If we’re looking really hard in order to find a flaw here, only the relatively small size of the pictures would come up.

allé’s return policy includes a 30 day no-questions-asked refund on every non custom-made item available. Most of the higher priced jewelery is affixed with a security tag to inhibit the proper wearing of the item. Breaking this tag results in immediate termination of your return period. This is understandable due to the exclusiveness of some of the available items, but nonetheless a little inconvenient for an online store, which results in “only” four stars.

The shipping and handling is always included in the price of the item, and every purchased is shipped via Federal Express 2nd Day Delivery by default. This includes even the lowest price items available. Overnight delivery is of course also an option.

The Jewelery store front relies heavily on thumbnails for the various accessories displayed. Thus, navigation works very intuitive – click a picture, get a description with a bigger picture, buy or head back and look for the next product. The left navigation bar “follows” your activities as it always displays the specific subcategory you are browsing in bolded letters. In terms of searching through the catalogue, apart from the usual categories to browse through, you are also able to look for items in very specific price ranges or just for a maximum budget. This is extremely helpful and time saving when you are looking for gifts and presents. For an site that doesn’t focus on just jewelery, there is hardly that much to criticize concerning the overall layout.

The navigation is clean and free of clutter. And in the unlikely case that you don’t find the matching category for anything you are looking for on first glance, there is a search option right above the navbar. The shop also allows you to search for items within a specific pricing range (starting with below $100), which makes shopping for gifts on a set budget remarkably easy.
